A bread date is a very dry date. It is a date that has developed straight from khalal (coloured stage) to tamar (cured state). They have a different flavour from soft dates in that they tend to have a nutty taste. Their texture make them ideal for carrying as they are a firm date having a very low level of moisture, still having a high energy content (invert sugars). The lack of moisture makes them a very light date. They can be ideal dates to carry in lunch boxes or for bushwalkers. Unfortunately they have an unpleasing shriveled appearance to them.
