AUSTRALIAN Organic White Quinoa - It needs a
good wash before cooking.
Country of Origin: AUSTRALIA
This quinoa is an Australian first.
Thanks to Lauran and Henriette Damen of Kindred Organics in Tasmania, the farmers responsible for
this breakthrough product. We always look out for Australian product.
This quinoa is a little different though:
It needs a good wash before cooking.
Imported Quinoa has been washed and dried before being packed. The reason for this is that
quinoa contains high levels of saponin in it skin, which essentially acts as a protective seed
coating. This coating tastes bitter and soapy, therefore (unless you like bitter and soapy tasting
food), it is IMPORTANT that the quinoa is thoroughly washed before use.
Cooking Instructions:
-
Simply place the quinoa in a pot, fill the pot with
water, stir thoroughly, then drain off the water and repeat until the water is
clear.
-
We find that about 1 & 1/4 cups of water per cup
of quinoa is good.
-
Cooking time is about half that of white rice.
-
Once all water has been absorbed, remove from heat and
let it sit for about 5 minutes, stiring gently with a fork to 'fluff' it up.
Quinoa is a grain originating from South America that formed a staple food of the Inca
civilisation. It contains high levels of protein. Quinoa also provides starch, sugars, oil, fibre
and vitamins and many other nutrients such as iron, copper and phosphorus.
NOTE: Quinoa is gluten free.
