FRAGRANT Rainfed Long Grain Brown Rice
Why RAINFED RICE is so special
Slater Farm on Fairy Hill
Why Bio-Dynamic is Even Better than Organic
Best Sustainability Credentials in Australia!
Most rice is grown in flooded rice paddies. RAINFED RICE however is dryland rice, which in
contrast, requires only natural rainfall, saving critical Australian water resources. RAINFED RICE
grows well in warm climates with high rainfall, both of which the Northern Rivers area has in
abundance.

RAINFED RICE is grown and milled on the family-owned Slater Farm in Northern Rivers,
NSW.
Brett Slater, a local bio-dynamic certified farmer with a passion for innovative sustainable
farming moved to organic farming practices 12 years ago and converted to bio-dynamic growing 6 years
ago. Brett grew his first crop of dryland rice in 2009. He then purchased and set up his own
mill on the farm to produce an all-down-the line bio-dynamic grain.

Santos is working with Brett to be able to supply even more of his delicious bio-dynamic
crops such as long grain brown rice, spelt, wheat and more.
Bio-dynamic farming adheres to guidelines that are even more stringent than those required
for organic certification. Bio-dynamic agriculture is essentially an advanced form of organic
agriculture and works on the fundamental ecological principle that the farm is a living organism.
The emphasis is on food quality and soil health and improvement of the soil quality is a high
priority.
Besides being tasty and nutritious, RAINFED RICE is probably
the most sustainable product we sell.
