Whole Organic Nutmeg
Country of Origin: Sri Lanka
The nutmeg spice is derived from the fruit of the nutmeg tree species which there are two types of
spice extracted from the fruit - mace and nutmeg. Nutmeg itself is the actual seed of the tree,
whilst mace is the lacy reddish covering of the seed. Nutmeg is native to Indonesia and had reached
China, the rest of Asia and India before the birth of christ. Nutmeg had arrived into the
Mediterranean by 500AD and was known world wide by the 13th century.
Nutmeg has a warm, aromatic, full bodied flavour that complements predominantly sweet foods but can
be used to enhance savoury dishes also, especially root vegetables.
