Cinnamon is a tropical evergreen that is related to the avocado tree. It is considered a spice
derived from the bark of the Cinnamon tree but is also used medicinally. Cinnamon is said to be one
of the oldest spices with references dating back to 2500 years to the land of the Pharaohs in Egypt.
The acient Greeks and Romans were using cinnamon by 66AD and by the 13th century it was being traded
in India and Sri Lanka.
Cinnamon is used in cakes, sweet pastries and biscuits, stewed fruits, curries, drinks such as
chai, moroccan tagines and preserved lemons. Yum!
Medicinally, cinnamon can assist in releiving nausea, vomiting and diarrhea due to it's mild
astringency. It is also used to bring heat to the body and sooth coughs.
