Updates on Cathy Henkel's Borneo Project 3D
Beackground
On the 26th August Santos hosted Cathy Henkel's presentation of her Borneo Project 3D. The Borneo project 3D is a film about saving the orang-utan and their forests in Kalamantan in Borneo. Local Mullumbimby eco warrior Kodi Twiner was chosen to be part of a team of 16 eco warriors for this ground breaking solution oriented way of saving the forest. Kathy Henkel says this is like Avatar but real, and will appeal to millions of young people when it is released next year.
Notes From Cathy's Diary
This is day 10 of the 100 days in the jungle, an epic quest for solutions and hope in the face of a crisis that is unfolding in Borneo. The travelling party consists of Dr. Willie Smits, 15 Eco-Warriors, a film crew of 12 and an ever changing group of local advisors, supporters and curious observers. Our goals are to see first-hand and try to understand the extent of the deforestation, the causes and consequences of the destruction, the impacts on the wildlife and the local Dayak people, and most importantly, what can be done about it.
After a day of rest, washing clothes, visiting the local school and communicating with the outside world, the EWs pack up again for a 2 day visit to the village of Tembak, about 3 hours drive from Sintang. This village is strongly opposed to palm oil and is very keen to find out more about sugar palm and to meet the EWs.
